The Basic Features and Functions of Commercial HVAC Units

When it comes to a commercial HVAC system, it is crucial to understand its basic functions and features. Hopefully, you won’t ever have to deal with the problems with your HVAC unit, but it does have problems, it will be helpful to have a bit of basic knowledge of its components. While you will probably still need to call the professionals, this will also help you see who has to be called and how fast too. Read on to learn more!

Heating the Furnace

Your furnace is the central heating system of your HVAC unit. Both residential and commercial buildings will have furnaces, but the furnace will be a lot more powerful for commercial buildings. The furnace uses energy to heat the air before moving it throughout the entire building. All of this is activated by a pilot light. Once you alter the temperature, the pilot light turns out, setting the burners off. The heat created by these burners is then blown through a heat exchanger before it is moved throughout the entire building by a blower motor. This process continues until the desired temperature has been reached, at which point the system will then shut off. If you have an electric furnace, it might work a bit differently. Electricity will pass through the heating elements to start instead of using a pilot light. These heating units are then attached to resistance coils which then lead to blower motors.

The Air Conditioning Components

The cooling components of your HVAC unit are more simply known as the air conditioning units. In a lot of businesses, this is important to the well-being and safety of your employees and equipment, especially if you work within an industry with items that might be heat sensitive. There are four main parts of an air conditioner, the compressor, condenser, evaporator, and the expansion device. Both the heating and cooling are then pumped through the building with assistance from the heat pump. The heat pump will then need a water source, ground source, or air source for it to work correctly.
