3 Tips for Louver Maintenance

Louver

Maintaining your louver system isn’t all that difficult. In fact, there are only three main points to keep in mind.

Maintaining your custom louvers is incredibly easy. All a louver needs is a bit of cleaning and some attention and they should last you for quite a while. However, it’s good to take a look at your custom louvers at least once a year to get a better feel for what they may need. Because they’re made of aluminum, your louvers ought to stand up to the elements and time pretty well. Nonetheless, it’s always better to know just what to look for and how to take care of your louvers should anything go wrong. Let’s take a look at three tips for maintaining a louver so you can get out there and make sure the job has been done right.

1. Get It Clean

Aluminum louvers are incredibly protected against things like rust or UV rays, which could ultimately end up oxidizing aluminum and cause a lot of issues. While rust may not be a big worry, one concern that can threaten the finish of your aluminum is algae, which can and ultimately will grow on an aluminum fence under the right set of conditions. This slowly eats away at the finish on your louver, but getting rid of algae is incredibly easy. All you need to do is wipe down your louver with some soap and water. If you add a bit of bleach to the solution, you can ensure that algae won’t thrive on your precious louver.

2. Clear Some Room

You want to make sure you’re not letting landscaping elements like vines take over your louvers entirely. Brush away shrubs and trees wherever necessary and trim anything that may be getting in the way. As tough as aluminum louvers are, something like a big tree root growing under your louver could cause issues and warp the structure, so be on the lookout for those.

3. Know When It’s Time to Replace

Finally, remember that nothing lasts forever. While aluminum is a durable material that you should get years of use out of, your custom louver installer may not be able to fix large enough problems at some point and it may be better to replace your louvers outright. Don’t fret, though, as aluminum is a very eco-friendly material and is completely recyclable, meaning all that aluminum can end up having a second life.
